It all started over a tall Teddy Bear and a skinny Nutty Buddy -- the drinks of choice of recent South Lyon newlyweds Brandi and Jeff Tobe.

The couple met on a blind date in 2009 at Biggby Coffee They later made Novi’s Grand River Avenue location their home away from home several times a week.
With the planning of their nuptials, which took place June 4, the Tobes decided to incorporate their favorite coffee shop and place where it all began in their special day.

“We both grew up in Lansing, and Biggby is based there,” said Jeff, 29. “We had that in common, so we thought it would be a perfect place to meet for the first time.”
Jeff said he and Brandi get coffee several times a week on their way to work and together on the weekend as a couple.

“It’s a big part of our lives, and we wanted to make sure we included everyone at Biggby in our wedding day,” he said.

The Tobe’s ceremony took place at Northville’s historic Mill Race Village gazebo, then they took a trolley to Biggby in Novi for pictures before heading to their reception.

Mike Waltersdorf, owner of Biggby, said he was honored the Tobes wanted to include his store and staff in their wedding. He said staff was dressed in Biggby’s summer blue shirts, as requested by the bride, and champagne and balloons helped set the ambiance.

“It’s nice to see something like (their relationship) blossom at Biggby,” Waltersdorf said. “I’m there so much, and I know when a first date is going on. I notice. It’s fun to watch.”

Waltersdorf said his store, which has been open just over three years, is very community friendly and regulars often request staff members they’ve come to know over a good cup of Joe.

The Tobe’s spent 45 minutes at Biggby taking pictures after their wedding.

“We had an absolute blast,” said Brandi, 28. “They even let me behind the counter to make coffee. They made it absolutely amazing and definitely went above and beyond for us.”

Wedding guests received customized Biggby travel coffee mugs and a cozy that reads “Started over coffee brewed into love, thanks-a-latte for sharing in our special day.”

After the wedding, the Tobes said they were taking a break from coffee to set out on their honeymoon. They said they will be back at Biggby as soon as they return home.
