BIGGBY Sponsors “Gopher for the Gold” Race for Third Straight Year

SHELBY TWP., MI., July 20, 2011 – BIGGBY COFFEE of Shelby Township is off to the races! For the third straight year the location is sponsoring the Gopher the Gold Charity Run on Saturday, July 23rd which is held annually at River Bends Park in Shelby Twp. Store owner, Dave Danyko, will provide fresh brewed coffee to all those in attendance as well as a live DJ to add to the fun!

The sixth annual race benefits Macomb County Special Olympics and last year helped to raise more than $6,000 with 300+ participants. Danyko said he hopes the event tops both numbers this year.

“The support and participation in the race continues to grow each year which is great to see! That means we can continually donate more back to the Special Olympics,” Danyko said. “I enjoy being a part of this awesome community and doing what I can to give back.”

Runner and walkers alike can register until Saturday morning to participate in either a 5-kilometer or 10- kilometer race. There will also be a Fun Run of kids under 12 and for Special Olympic athletes. Danyko will also award the top four finishers with a five-pound bag of BIGGBY COFFEE!

“It’s great to see more and more people coming out from the community each year and rallying around such a great cause,” Danyko said. “It’s really nice to see the frequent customers of our BIGGBY location coming by and getting excited about the race and the coffee. This community means a lot to me and I think this is a perfect way to show my support.”

The race will also feature professional distance runner, Desiree Davila as the honorary starter. Davila has been the top female American Marathoner for the past two years and recently finished second in this year’s Boston Marathon; the closest any American (male or female) has ever come to winning the race.

About BIGGBY COFFEE®
East Lansing, Mich.-based BIGGBY® COFFEE opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. BIGGBY COFFEE introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprises guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY COFFEE has 135 cafes open or under contract across seven states including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas.  For more information, visit www.biggby.com.
